Healing the Ovaries
According to Drs Lee and Hanley for healing infertility:
Stimulate ovulation

If estrogen-dominance symptoms are present, use some natural progesterone cream to restore balance. See Renewed Balance info.

Use the herb Vitex every day, including during menses, for at least three months (unless you become pregnant then stop.

What to avoid:
Birth controls pills (they can cause infertility)
Unopposed estrogen
Talcum powder in the genital region
Pesticides of all kinds
Junk foods including caffeine, sugar, nutrasweet and refined carbohydrates.
Dairy products
Feed-lot-meats (eat only range-fed organic meats free of drugs and pesticide residues)
Fertility drugs – especially Provera

For the ovaries:
If estrogen-dominance symptoms are present – see Symptoms of Estrogen Dominance, use natural progesterone cream – RenewedBalance Natural Progesterone
For functional ovarian cysts, take a liver supporting and detoxifying herbal formula that includes some or all of the following:
Bupleurum, Milk thistle (Licorice root is listed below and has the same actions and properties but is also a phytoestrogen necessary for the follicular phase, will lower testosterone in women, increase cervical mucus and decrease male facial and body hair patterns), barberry or goldenseal, burdock root, yellow dock, and dandelion root. Do not take licorice root if you have high blood pressure.

For functional ovarian cysts, take an ovary-healing herbal formula that includes some or all of the following herbs: burdock root, cramp bark, licorice root, dandelion root,Vitex, red raspberry…

Take a good multi-vitamin-mineral daily (these are the most questionable and I recommend wholefood supplements which are more readily absorbed by the body in their entirety). Dr.Lee recommends getting folic acid and calcium as well as other vitamins and minerals straight from food especially green leafy vegetables. See the JustCarrots, RediBeets and Barleygreen.

What To Do To Restore Ovulation:
Manage stress more effectively and slow
Avoid very strenuous exercise.
Avoid very low calorie diets Take the herb Vitex. See our store.
Use some natural progesterone cream on days 5-26 for three cycles to temporarily suppress ovulation
On the fourth cycle, ovulation will often return. (longer times may be needed for some who have more severe conditions.)
(By the way, he can only say often but he does mean very often according to his writing and research.)
Work through traumatic events with creative outlets, therapy, journal writing and so on.
Leave abusive relationships

OvarianCysts and Mittelschmerz
Ovarian cysts are products of failed or disordered ovulation. As I have described earlier, one or more ovarian follicles is developed monthly by the effects of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). Luteinizing hormone (LH) promotes actual ovulation and the transformation of the follicle (after ovulation) into the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone.During a young woman’s early years of menstruating, ovulation may coincide with a small amount of bleeding where the follicle has ruptured to release the egg. This can cause abdominal pain, often with a slight fever, at the time of ovulation (in the middle days between periods) and is commonly called MITTELSCHMERZ (German for “middle”and “pain”). Treatment might consist only of some ibuprofen, reassurance, rest and perhaps a warm pack. It is unlikely to re-cure and portends no future problems.

Later in life, usually after their mid-thirties, women sometimes develop an ovarian cyst that may not cause any symptoms, or it may cause pelvic pain ranging from mild to severe. The cyst may simply collapse and disappear after a month or two, or it may persist and increase in size and discomfort during succeeding months. Such cysts are caused by a failed ovulation in which, for reason presently unknown, the ovulation did not proceed to completion. With each succeeding month’s surge of LH, the cyst swells and stretches the surface membrane, causing pain and possible bleeding at the site. Some cysts may become as large as a golf ball or lemon before discovery. Treatment may require surgery.(Removing the ovary along with the cyst used to be the standard procedure, but I recommend asking your surgeon to leave the ovary intact if at all possible.)

An alternative treatment for ovarian cysts is natural progesterone. The signaling mechanism that shuts off ovulation in one ovary each cycle is the production of progesterone in the other . If sufficient natural progesterone is supplemented prior to ovulation, LY levels are inhibited and both ovaries thing the other one has ovulated, so regular ovulation does not occur. (This is the same effect as contraceptive pills.)Similarly, the high estriol and progesterone levels throughout pregnancy successfully inhibit ovarian activity for nine months. Therefore, adding natural progesterone from day10 to day 26 of the cycle suppresses LH and it’s luteinizing effects. Thus the ovarian cyst will not be stimulated and, in the passage of one or two such monthly cycles, will very likely shrink and disappear without further treatment.

This is from the book “What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause” by Dr. John R. Lee. He is a foremost authority in treating women with Natural Progesterone for so many things. So much of what a woman suffers is from hormone imbalance and nothing else. There are xenoestrogens in plastics, canned goods and even in water. (Syntheticestrogens) The effect is that women’s body attacked on a hormonal level. His book is the result of 20 years using Natural Progesterone. Renewed Balance is natural progesterone. It is one of the highest concentrations available today, which means more for your money. You need only 1/8 of a teaspoon for 2 weeks a month for hormonal well being.Your symptoms determine which part of the month is right for you. As he stated above, for ovarian cysts from day 10 to 26, for infertility it would be ovulation to menses and for post-menopause day 5 – 26. There are so many symptoms but we don’t want to merely treat the symptoms.
